Actually jealous how nice this Philips is looking like, so shiny, so nice….
The sound is not in sync with the look. Still loudness on, also tone control, really bad electro cap for replacement…

This page seems to be about a repair guy. He added nice new connectors, circled in everything that seemed to be a capacitor. Thrown out the nice Endless life Philips Mustards (gosh…). Sourced quality replacements, except the JJ capacitors (never tried, but read not much good about it) and Tesla tubes (Philips Miniwatt please!). And totally forgot to remove the loudness components or the shitty tone control or…… or make any modification. I guess due to the preamplifier it works on lowest volume, the sound is terrible, but some listener may still hear the very good sound behind the wall, what the below amp still has.
By the way: The earth protection and the filters in the AC line were really nice ideas of the repair guy!
Let’s begin with the worst. There is a site, called:
http://www.tube-classics.de/TC/GermanTubeHifi/Integamps/Philips%209018/AG9018.htm
A quite nice site, with somebody on board who is really engaged with tube amps.
So this guys says: “Philips: Great tubes – bad amps. Sorry, but it is sad but true: Lots of their EL36 and EL81 amps are not worth to spend time on them. “
“Not worth”??? I could not sleep well when I read this. I did not have yet the Philips but had that sound from Klangbilder 2018 in my ears. Was really tough to overcome such a critic and believe in what I heard on a noisy and short day and then invest in an AG9015. Luckily turned out it was more than worth to buy a 64 year old Philips amplifier.
I think the guy mixed up products as the AG9018 (wooden boxed AG9015) has EL86/ECC83/EF86 as tube set, while he blames EL36 and EL81 based amps… Anyway. Ignore this Tube classics opinion.
